Costs

This document covers the costs for using Avantra for AWS as well as the costs that occur for using AWS services with this solution.

Application Costs

You are charged on an hourly basis for the number of systems that consume a license in Avantra for AWS, according to the following definition of licensed objects:

Avantra distinguishes four types of licensed items: SAP System (SID) including SAP Database, Additional SAP Instance, Stand-alone Database, and Server.

SAP System (SID) including SAP Database

This license type comprises the primary application server instance (formerly known as Central) of an SAP System (e.g. SAP NetWeaver, SAP S/4HANA) and the (primary) logical Database of the same SAP System ID.

Additional SAP Instance

This license type is required for

  • any additional application server instance (formerly known as Dialog) of an SAP System that already consumes an SID license.

  • a stand-alone Web-Dispatcher SAP System

  • a Web-Dispatcher instance of an SAP System that already consumes an SID license.

  • an Abap_Scs-with-Web-Dispatcher instance of an SAP System that already consumes an SID license.

  • a Trex instance.

Stand-alone Database

This license type is required for any supported Database that is not the primary Database of an SAP System, e.g.

  • any additional database instance (e.g. liveCache) of an SAP System that already consumes an SID license

  • any supported Database that is not part of an SAP System at all.

Server

This license type is required for any Server running a Avantra Agent on one of the following operating systems: AIX, Linux (Intel), PowerLinux, Solaris, Microsoft Windows.

Virtual Cluster Servers do not require a license itself, but they can only run on a (physical) Server that consumes a Server license.

You do not need a license for instances of type JSCS, ASCS, or ERS.

You do not need a license for the System Database of an SAP HANA multi-container installation.

All managed systems require a license once they are active, even if monitoring is turned off manually or by aMaintenance Windows. A system switches to the license state Retired once it is flagged not operational. Retired systems still require a license for 40 days starting from the day they were flagged not operational. After 40 consecutive days in state Retired they automatically change to the license state Decomissioned and no longer require a license.

The following charges apply:

Licensed item Charges per Hour

AWS Service Costs

AWS Service cost depend on the sizing of the Avantra for AWS solution and the AWS region you deploy it into. There are three major cost blocks: the EC2 instance running the Avantra Server, the RDS database instance runing the Avantra Database, and the two Elastic Load Balancers, one for the UI and one for Avantra Agent connectivity.

The monthly service costs of Avantra for AWS in the default configuration of the AWS CloudFormation template (with instance types t3.medium and db.t3.small) will be about $130 in the eu-east-1 region. For a more detailed overview please have a look at the Monthly Cost Calculator.
